Pondering the Next Step
It seems I have found the gem I was looking for. A response to a recent posting made a very key point with regard to the separation of church and state. He said that there is no constitutional basis for a federal interpretation of any such case. Here's the rub. He's right. The constitution was developed by a group of god-fearing men for a god-fearing country. From George Washington in his farewell address to John Adams' letters to trusted colleagues and American citizens it is made very clear that without a faith in God at its core the effectiveness of this constitutional democracy ceases to exist.
So why the Engel v. Vitale? What made the misinterpretation of Jefferson letter worthy of setting a precedent? What could possibly justify removing from public life the very tenet of American life that our government was intended to protect? Is there really that much money in teaching evolution?
No. It can't be money. The amount of money spent on education in the last 10 years is enough to make some National GDP's look like pocket change. The cost is way to high to try making a profit at it.
It can't be concern for students’ well being. The standards have fallen to alarming new lows and still students have a difficult time keeping up. In fact my generation is the first to be less prepared for life than our parents. Record spending has taken place over the last four years and still our kids have a difficult time reading the credit card applications they get with their acceptance letter and welcome package to State U.
It can't be to protect our societal values. Teen pregnancy, single family households, violent crime, record incarcerations, commercialized abortion, the proliferation of the willful objectifying of men and women or profit etc... I could go on and on. The disproportionate rate of increase in relation to population growth in all the above categories is staggering. I'm some cases, rates went up by 700%.
That's right I said 700%.
In all cases rates doubled within 20 years of Engle v. Vitale.
I am brought to the conclusion that any person for whom God's presence is so disgusting that they feel it necessary to take the matter up with the Supreme Court is a person most in need of a prayer. They certainly need not attempt to affect change through throwing a sufficient hussy so as to peak the interest of a special interest group and by extension those to whom they are connected in the political realm.
We have tried every other form of education reform over the last 40 years in hopes that we could find something that would help. And by "everything," I mean "everything," up to and including the private investment of $50 million into an association headed by a man who represents the antithesis of American values. Dare I even call him a domestic terrorist!??…,. (GASP)
Oh wait... I can't because the FBI already did.
Maybe it is time to go back to the basics. Maybe the time for "radical" change has finally arrived.

Where did we go wrong?
Mr. President
To messers Nehemiah Dodge, Ephraim Robbins, & Stephen S. Nelson a committee of the Danbury Baptist association in the state of Connecticut.
Gentlemen
The affectionate sentiments of esteem & approbation which you are so good as to express towards me, on behalf of the Danbury Baptist association, give me the highest satisfaction. my duties dictate a faithful & zealous pursuit of the interests of my constituents, and in proportion as they are persuaded of my fidelity to those duties, the discharge of them becomes more & more pleasing.
Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state. [Congress thus inhibited from acts respecting religion, and the Executive authorised only to execute their acts, I have refrained from presenting even occasional performances of devotion presented indeed legally where an Executive is the legal head of a national church, but subject here, as religious exercises only to the voluntary regulations and discipline of each respective sect.] Adhering to this expression of the supreme will of the nation in behalf of the rights of conscience, I shall see with sincere satisfaction the progress of those sentiments which tend to restore to man all his natural rights, convinced he has no natural right in opposition to his social duties.
I reciprocate your kind prayers for the protection and blessing of the common Father and creator of man, and tender you for yourselves and your religious association, assurances of my high respect & esteem.
